Time doesn't exist for the part of the universe that is travelling at greater than the speed of light. It's called Dark Matter.

Time appears to be passing faster as we age. The last 10 years of my life just flew by in a flash. I remember the birth of each of my 3 children as if it was only yesterday, and they are now young adults.

Illusion is the wrong word to use

Time exists, but relatively to the systems' entanglements

My theory is that time travels faster as we age due to human perception. If we look back at the last 10 years of our life when we are 50, it represents only 20% of our existence on earth.  If a 10-year-old child looks back at the last 10 years of his life, it represents 100% of his existence so he will probably feel that it went by pretty slowly.
