Six month later another military coup?

Thai military and conservative political interests will not welcome Thaksin back in any shape or form, including his family members entering politics and successfully winning elections.

The problem for Thai politicians is not winning votes, but keeping the military's dirty hands out of politics.

Unfortunately like so many ASEAN countries, the military was where their political establishment originated from in history. So it's damn hard to get their influence neutered out of politics. They're already hard baked into the system.

SG is an anomaly in this regard like Malaysia because both countries didn't really have any indigenous military establishment or heritage/culture before independence. That's why in Malaysia you don't see the military get involved in politics or ex military people use their service record and change it into political currency. SG went down a different path because the SAF was created to be a partisan organisation defined and moulded solely by the PAP. That's why we see so many ex SAF officers and generals parachuted into GLCs and politics.

In other words, SG shares more in common with Thailand than people realise when it comes to military involvement in politics. We just don't go through bloody coups to do it.
