I always ask the price beforehand before paying.

And if I find the price is way overpriced from what I normally pay at the stall, I walk away. I have done it quite a few times already.

Good for you! Do not be held to ransom by scammers posing as stallholders. My wife and I have picked up some pretty easy to follow recipes online which enable us to whip up restaurant and hawker centre standard dishes laden with nutritious meat, fish and poultry at a fraction of the price of eating out.
