A firebrand youth leader, Anwar founded a youth movement before he was recruited into the then-ruling United Malays National Organization (UMNO).

He enjoyed a meteoric rise to become deputy prime minister-cum-finance minister in the 1990s.

He was groomed to take over from then-Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad but a bitter fallout over Malaysia’s response to the Asian economic crisis saw Anwar sacked in September 1998 and later jailed for six years.

Wish Malaysians all the best.

But I find his first move on his own salary is wrong and s gimmick
Malaysia needs to Mobley to a clean wage system from top to bottom.
When you under pay the police and civil sevants they are entice to make money elsewhere. I don’t know why people always fall for such political gimmicks

Malaysia like many countries in same category is stuck in a middle income trap they are no longer that poor but unable to go to a high income economy because they depend on cheap labor and are stuck in old industries like manufacturing and commodities.

Many are stuck here for very Long because to move out takes structural changes and not easy

Singapore financialised it’s economy moving to higher tech and transformation to financial center.

Not that it’s the most important thing for a country it’s a next step for an economy

But Singapore in reaching where we are also has much unhappiness at the end of the day

I, being poor, have only my dreams; I have spread my dreams under your feet; Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.
