Air NZ is telling travel agents about tough new rules for US flight disruption
#1

The US Department of Transport (DoT) announced the new rules in April, which are aimed at holding airlines to clear and consistent standards when they cancel, delay or substantially change flights, and will require automatic cash refunds to be issued within weeks. They will also require them to reveal all fees before a ticket is bought.

The rule also covers journey to or from Britain, Europe or Canada, which transit via the US. Air NZ flies to five US destinations which provide transit stops to other countries.

Customers are entitled to a full refund of any unused fares, taxes and ancillary product fees when their flight is either cancelled or significantly changed and they choose not to travel.

It sounds like a win for travelers, especially for those of us who don’t fly budget . But aren’t looking to break the bank either—think Affordable Premium Travel like business class when we can snag a good deal. I usually fly Air NZ’s business class for long-hauls (especially when heading to the States), and I think these rules could make a difference. Last time, my connecting flight through LA got delayed, and while the service was great, sorting out compensation took a while. Automatic refunds and more transparency would make planning so much easier. I think Air NZ will have to make some adjustments, but if it means better service and clear-cut policies, I'm all for it!
