Semiconductor prices have fallen sharply, especially for high-end electronics like mobile phones, with some rising 10-fold since the start of the year, media reported, against the backdrop of weak global demand and high inventories in the market.

The decline came just a year after historic chip shortages pushed prices to record levels. Industry insiders said the new trend may continue for the rest of the year, but will level off amid potential demand for new energy vehicles.

Some once-popular chip models last year have dropped from 200 yuan (US$29.5) a piece to 20 yuan now
