The Ministry of Emergency Situations of the DPR reported that, as of 6:30 a.m. local time, 6,603 people had been evacuated to Russia from the self-proclaimed republic, including 2,436 children.

“Today, in addition to centralized evacuation of the population on buses and private vehicles, evacuation will also be carried out by rail from the stations: Yasinovataya, Makeevka, Debaltseve, Gorlovka, Ilovaisk and Donetsk - 2,” the message says on the official website of the Ministry of Emergencies.

Russia will accept up to 700,000 refugees
On the afternoon of February 18, the heads of the self-proclaimed republics of the DPR and LPR suddenly announced a mass evacuation of Donbas residents to the nearest Russian region, Rostov. The Kremlin and the authorities of the region at first declared that they knew nothing about what was happening at all, and then they abruptly began to prepare for the arrival of people from the “LPR”.
