SAN FRANCISCO, Dec 8 — A major outage disrupted Amazon’s cloud services yesterday, knocking out streaming platforms Netflix and Disney+, Robinhood, a wide range of apps and Amazon.com Inc’s e-commerce website as consumers shopped ahead of Christmas.

Amazon said it was working to resolve the issue and was making progress, but did not give an estimate when services would be fully restored.

Amazon’s Ring security cameras, mobile banking app Chime and robot vacuum cleaner maker iRobot, that use Amazon Web Services (AWS), reported issues according to their social media pages.

The possibility of such outages makes it unusable for mission-critical applications tapping 5G technologies. Imagine a surgeon doing an operation and then an outage occurs, or that autonomous vehicles crashed because important data cannot be communicated.

Cloud may not be a good design.. though it consolidate resources under a vendor for ease of managing but this issue highlight the problems.

I just stumbled upon this thread, and I see that it's from two years ago. Time flies, doesn't it? Even though it's been a while since the Amazon cloud outage, it's interesting to revisit the impact it had on major websites and streaming apps.
During that time, it must have been frustrating for users to experience disruptions while shopping and streaming, especially with Christmas approaching. It's good to know that Amazon was actively working to resolve the issue and make progress toward restoring services.
