Michelle Fallon 'felt like she had Covid' after being spat at by a lab monkey following a rescue, when a truck crashed, leaving the animals strewn across State Route 54 in Danville, US

A woman who helped lab monkeys thinking they were cats after a truck carrying the creatures crashed fears she may have picked up an illness.

Michelle Fallon says one of the 100 escaped animals spat at her - and she has been sick since pulling over to help.

After the vehicle ran into trouble, some of the crates broke after spilling out and it allowed many of the caged monkeys to run free.

She approached one before it hissed at her and the woman from Pennsylvania, US, says she’s been experiencing ‘pink eye’ symptoms since the incident last week.

She was also reported an inflammation of the eyeball and a cough and believes she may have caught something following the road accident.....

A top European health official warned on Friday (May 20) that cases of the rare monkeypox virus could accelerate in the coming months, as the virus spread across Europe.

Israel and Switzerland are the latest countries to confirm cases of monkeypox, bringing the total number of nations reporting outbreaks to 14.

Both countries said they identified one infected person who had recently travelled, but Israel said it was investigating other suspected cases.

More than 80 cases have been confirmed in the recent outbreak in Europe, the US, Canada and Australia.

Monkeypox is most common in remote parts of Central and West Africa.

This outbreak has taken scientists by surprise, but monkeypox does not tend to spread easily between people and the risk to the wider public is said to be low.

Cluster of Legionnaires' Disease Found in Bronx: What to Know

The New York City Health Department announced on Friday that it was investigating a community cluster of Legionnaires' disease in part of the Bronx.

At least four people have been diagnosed with the illness since May 9, with more results still pending. The cluster was found in the Highbridge section of the Bronx (10452 and 10456 ZIP codes) as well as surrounding communities.

Outbreaks of Legionnaires’ disease in prisons are occasionally downplayed by the officials in charge of penal institutions.

Earlier this year, it was discovered that Illinois officials made misleading statements during an outbreak in six prisons.

When disease outbreaks happen in prisons, officials may not want a panic to erupt, particularly among family members of those incarcerated. And certainly state officials don’t want to incur lawsuits about medical treatment for preventable diseases.

On Dec. 1, 2021, media outlets in Indiana reported that three inmates at Pendleton Correctional Facility had confirmed cases of Legionnaires’ disease, a lung infection caused by Legionella bacteria. The bacteria spreads through aerosolized water droplets, which can be inhaled, causing illness. An inmate died from the disease.

In early May, five inmates, claiming to have contracted the disease, filed a federal lawsuit alleging that the state violated their rights to adequate conditions while in confinement and to medical care.

The lead plaintiff claimed he suffered chills, fever, diarrhea and possible kidney problems after bathing and drinking the contaminated water. The five prisoners are seeking $1 million each in damages and the replacement of lead piping. They also want outside medical care from a licensed provider.
