During a question-and-answer session with reporters, Anwar also stressed on his earlier promise to forgo his prime minister’s salary.

“I had announced that the first step to gain back the trust of the rakyat, so that they don’t view ministers and leaders, irrespective of party, irrespective of faith, all of them as being those who only think of salaries, interests, contracts, shares.

“Therefore, I chose to reject the salary of a prime minister,” he added.

To think every thing is clean before 2000 is is silly.
It is he is lesser corrupt because he is brought down earlier

Anyway he need to honor his words to keep team in unity.

This is Anwar's first salvo fired at PAP either intentionally or unintentionally. Looks like it would be very difficult to find common interest with Anwar .... Thinking

This is just a political move to appeal to emotions of the people...

In reality, Malaysia need to pay it's civil servants, policemen and ministers better for the world and encourage clean wages

The most corrupt countries have leaders and civil servants pay with low salaries.

Yes voters are emotional and flawed people become happy to see low pay of politicians ...it appeals to emotions but is just a deception...in the end they are worse off as a result.

People should not get stupid over such things.

By paying our politicians well we can demand high performance and the best performance. When they don't deliver we can put the pressure.
If you pay them peanuts you can really cause damage.

That is why the high pay.of our leaders has never been a real issue.....they pap is returned to power again and again with their salaries being highest in the world. Most Singaporean's understand this.

Anwar prefer the BS Way?
Not getting a salary means clean?
So he is seen as doing a charity for the people.
Scam is everywhere. Even in politics.

Straightaway by doing this he is indirectly firing a salvo at Sg’s side. Will one of the minister’s forgo even just one month’s salary to give to the destitute and poor here? Big Grin

He should peg his salary to our PM. If Malaysia is 100x bigger than SG....then he should be paid around $300m pa. Guarantee no corruption!
