As I grew older and older, I tended to spend less and less on things unless these are essential for sustaining life like food. Indulgences are rare though not entirely zilch.
Our local repopulation rate is low. The heydays of the boomer spenders are shrinking in tandem.
Foreigners are replacing us and to keep costs down those are from countries which are relatively poor. There are 2.5 million of them who are not splurging here.
So, PG, MG, Gen X and FWs ain't spending...

For PG and MG it may be true, most do not spend much outside of essentials (exception maybe ish casino noticed many PG\MG are easily addicted to gambling) even if they can afford to do so. (don't be surprised that some still have a handsome amt of $$$ to spend even if their CPF already dry out, cause this generation tend to have much bigger family and could received a lot of pocket $$$ from their off-springs, like moi 90yo grandpa, every month chao chao got received >3K in total from the pocket $$$ given by his dozens of off-spring families, some of moi uncles maybe already left the mortal world but their sons will take over and continue to contribute monthly, some give $100 monthly some give $200 some give $300, total add up ish a lot, maybe that why they don't know how and wat to spend on many end up like to go casino to donate)
Gen X base on those that moi know in RL, ish felt like split half half, those born before the 70s ish like having similar lifestyle as the PG\MG at their golden years, but those born after 70s ish however seem more sophisticated in their golden years lifestyle and like the younger generations can still spend quite a lot on their hobbies, entertainment and traveling. Even the low SES type may continue to spend on their hobbies (be it movies, streaming, gaming, manga, anime, go on tour etc) into their 50s 60s as long as they still have some kind of sustainable income (afterall many would 'choose' to work beyond 65), or pocket $$$ from their kids.
So moi do think the potential ish there for making $$$ from elders after the Gen X, just have to do some research on wat they are willing to spend on.
There was a time when the country asked ordinary men to do extraordinary things.
But now, they'll only do it for money.

this report is not realistic and paint the wrong picture.
unemployment for people above 50 years old is very high as ageism and import of foreigners for jobs are common in Singapore.
older consumers are insecure as they can become unemployed once foreigners replace them.
it is difficult to get business from older consumers who can easily be replaced by cheaper foreigners.

Gambling at casinos or just buying TOTO does not benefit retailers.
Retailers want boomers to wear a pair of leather shoes... to goodness where and for what? Retired already still wear black leather shoes... Obermain, Bally, Florsheim.. to drink Carlsbeerg at the nearby coffeee shop meh? No more going to Shenton Way and no need to show off liao. Just wear a pair of cheap sandals can oredi.
The thread's title says they want to target the older crowd. Not easy. In fact it's near impossible if you want an old man to spend on things which are manufacred for a young man.
Hairstylists are for sure facing it.. You want young women to come but lau auntie long time already no hair, still want to fashion up simi crowning glory.. meanwhile jiuhu bus cut their hair in JB. And you can forget about pinays and burmese paying $50 for a hairdo.
Clothes.... at a glance Singapore does not look like a fashion city. Most of the young come from poor countries and the clothes they wear.... We do have many girls wearing pretty and sexpensive dresses. My guess is that they are sinkie bus. Retailers cannot survive on such a small market of locals...
