The only difference between then and now will be that NATO will have been humiliated by its inability to fight, the West and Ukraine will be in a much weaker position to negotiate a favorable deal—and that in the meantime, thousands of people will have died.

Less than 3 months before Russia's special operation,  Putin gave a UK reporter a lesson about Russian history and views today after the breakup of USSR.

The usually calm nature is totally gone in this press conference - He was obviously giving a final warning by drawing a deep red line over Ukraine crisis with NATO/US, which both continue to ignore Russia's concerns until 24 Feb 2022.

波兰前总统：分裂俄罗斯，让俄人口降至5000万，才能确保全球安全

7月10日，据俄罗斯卫星通讯社报道，波兰前总统瓦文萨在接受电视台采访时语出惊人，称西方国家不仅要准备好帮助乌克兰抵抗俄罗斯军队，更要做好“解放”俄罗斯的准备。瓦文萨称，西方各国可以组织俄罗斯人民起义、分裂被俄罗斯“吞并”的土地、强制改变俄罗斯的制度等方式，实现分裂俄罗斯的目的，让俄罗斯的人口降低至5000万人，以达到保证全球安全的目的。

不难看出，这是一个由可笑的论点支撑起来的，非常可笑的方案。

首先说支撑其观点的证据。一方面，世界上任何一个国家的政治动向都应由其自己决定，以“俄罗斯可能发动战争”为理由就要分裂俄联邦，俄罗斯是不是也可以反过来以“波兰可能被德国再次入侵”为理由要求波兰无条件接受俄罗斯驻军。

更何况俄乌冲突的起因又不是什么秘密，除非选择性忽略，否则没有人能冠冕堂皇地认为俄罗斯是“战争的发动者”。

另一方面，在瓦文萨看来，西方各国和俄罗斯都热衷于扩大其影响范围，区别在于西方各国采用的是“合法”的方式，俄罗斯则采用了旧时吞并的办法。

这更是一个十分荒谬的论点，美国用航空母舰、海军陆战队和金融武器征服小国是合法，俄罗斯用陆军和空军“教训”乌克兰就成了“吞并”，难道在瓦文萨眼中，区别合法与非法的界限在于该国使用的兵种。又或者他心里十分清楚，俄罗斯陆军踏上波兰领土的可能性微乎其微，但美国海军舰载机轰炸华沙绝对有可能。
