This is a wonderful proposal, helping PaP to manage and focus better.

For now, they are all over the place and even speaking on issues not within their portfolio.

Also, they seemed rather unstructured and unsystematic.

PM Lee will be happy that Opposition has raised this up. I support this!

If oppo becomes the majority in parliament then they will want an ombudsman. Now they are majority, they don't want people to check so that they can hide skeletons mah. 😂

PAP has no right to reject the goodness of Ombudsman

Shamugam or PM LEE cannot say "NO" either

Who the hell are they?

Useless Sham also failed to give any valid 5 reasons against the 5 good points

Abusing their majority votes to work against the good of this Tool and Mechanism

Why do we need 5 Mayors and 80 PAP Ministers?

There are too many ownself check ownself that ended into oblivion.

Yes, we must have an ombudsman.

How many (public) complaints have been swept under the carpet?

Where do we complain about the judiciary for example?  Are judges beyond complaints?

For transparency and justice there must be an ombudsman.

YES! And my point #2

Since the useless PAP cannot handle foreign MNCs

Then use Obudsman to get the job done

Esp with Job Discrimination that Perm Head Damage also cannot handle

And he failed to be a Minister to PROTECT the whistle blower

Why make us suffer because of PAP's Fat EGO?

Why do we need 5 Mayors and 80 PAP Ministers?

We expect to seek justice in the courts, but when justice is denied by the judge(s) and your appeal, because the judge(s) have erred and will not look at evidence. Judges are human being and they can be biased and unfair.

Where do you complain?

I have searched but here is no avenue to complain against judges in Singapore.

In the UK and USA, judges are not infallible. Complaints can be made against judges.

This is one area where an ombudsman is badly needed.

Sham made a circular argument that sounds logical but actually flawed. The SG govt has majority control and for extensive period. It is therefore more important for an independent body to investigate. Why is he then bringing in a second level loop asking who will then validate and check the ombudsman?

Another thing we have here is that our civil service is linked to the party that governs Singapore. Our civil service is not independent, CPIB is party of it. Even our President, a figurine at best, is selectively elected...

And then he was trying to say other countries are not as well governed as Singapore and that's why Singapore doesn't need an independent ombudsman? Who is to judge that Singapore is better run as compared to NZ or other countries? By GDP? What about gini coefficient? Freedom of speech? Or that because we have pofma?? Lol

It's actually a bad reply.

It appears that the lawyers that joined politics are not as brilliant as LKY and CST batch. Somehow they neither can think on their feet nor have (or maybe they don't see the need to?) watertight arguments like what LKY used to present...

Do they ever give a straight honest reply without throwing smoke of their own illogical logic.?

Enough is enough. Vote them out!

Singaporeans wake up!! -- you are not important in their agenda. This is a govt that don't put its (natural born) citizens first.

WP also did that, but then they have to have a COP and somehow concluded that WP has a bad or liar checker.

But when asked about an independent checker on govt (mostly if not all PAP) then it's quickly written off as waste of resources and who check the checker... Lol

Omg, kindergarten teachers for the whole world to witness. That is also why every other country is walking all over Singapore; unlike the days where LKY was still around...

So shameful, shameless, sia suay.

Shamelessly trying so desperately to protect their ownself check ownself.

Really disgusting to see such a government and parliament.

My concern is that even if Govt agrees to this 3 years later, they will ensure that Ombudsman report to President and claim it is neutral.

Not sure at the end, how they will want to control Ombudsman instead of the issues due to their policies.

But every Govt is still not perfect

PAP has indeed OVER- pay their OVER- size and OVER- educated Elites

So what? At the end there are still so many lapses esp MOM with 8 Sister Agencies

So how? They cannot handle might as well get others to do it.

So when? It has been more than 12 YEARS Behind and no point waiting until I die

So Who? Let Obudsman do it, lor.

Why do we need 5 Mayors and 80 PAP Ministers?
