The reason is this.
If you operate a farm in Indonesia you can hire Indonesians and just follow Indonesia regulation jncluding tax laws etc.
When the same business operates in Singapore the cost escalates. If you hire an foreign worker for the farm the levy alone is more than salary in Indonesia.
For this reason certain industries that are labor intensive cannot ever come back to Singapore.
The cost difference is like getting a foot massage in Indonesia vs in Singapore.
Even singaporeans who own farms operate in Desaru area.
