Traditionally most people believe Hakka people are true blue Han Chinese from central China, however Hakka society says they are descendants of Khitan nomads. Khitan people were tribal people from Mongolia who established Khitan Kingdom in northern China after North Song dynasty was conquered by Mongols. However soon after Jurchen people (ancestors of Manchurian) conquered Khitan kingdom and chased all the Khitan refugees to South Song in southern China in 1616, that was when waves of Hakka people fled to Southern Chinese and got attacked and rejected by Cantonese and Hokkien people. These Khitan refugees adopted Chinese language and culture along the way when they headed south.
