Please don't associate Tharman with Biden, caused everything Biden did brought troubles and deaths. Biden is the opposite of peace maker. He never want the Ukraine war to stop.

Tharman is popular but not as popular as his vote percentage may suggest.
His landslide victory is because his oppositions were weak for various reasons. So the votes just went to him.
It's the same with PAP. When the opposition fielded candidates wearing slippers or talking nonsene, PAP won big.
It's not because PAP was strong but because the oppo was weak. When they fielded Chen Show Mao they won Aljunied. When they fielded Jamus Lim, they got Sengkang.

No lah, Biden is NOT the most popular president lah. He only won 51.31% of the votes. The reason there are so many votes is that many Americans turned out to vote instead of not voting as in previous elections. It is the biggest voter turnout in history. It is basically a huge fight between the conservatives and the liberals and how US is to move forward for the next 4 years.
Trump, on the losing end, won 71.2 million votes in this particular election, also more than Obama's previous record of 69.5 million votes.
