Blatant profiteering Curry puff #01-50 Tpy Lor 8 HC
#1

The curry puff used to sell from $1 to $1.20 just last year.

Now today GST increase 1%, they increase 30cts to $1.50

Which is a whopping 25% increase instead.  Not patronizing this stall anymore.

We had been paying 8% all along.  Nao, it's only 1% more.  Should not even feel it, both sellers and buyers.

There are 2 groups of peepur who are sexploiting this:-

1.  The 39% who keep ranting 9% 9%! as though prices of raw materials and finished goods all went up by 9% when it's only 1%.  They do this for the obvious reason to get PAP voted out.

2.  Hawkers and also other business peepur/companies who try to pull a fast one, to profiteer.

We don't need a CPA to tell us that there is such a thing as Input Tax and Output Tax. For GST registered companies, they can offset these two, and pay the difference to IRAS.  Effectively, they are acting as a tax agent...or tax collector...for IRAS.  GST-registered Companies do not pay GST.  It's their customers who pay.  Repeat:  GST-registered COMPANIES DO NOT PAY GST!

There is no reason for them to raise prices because of GST.

Smaller businesses that are NOT GST-registered would be paying 1% more for their raw materials.  It's so negligible that most would just absorb it rather than charge $4.001 for the bak chor mee. But if they charge $4.50, that's 50 cents more, and tell you GST is 9%, that's a lie.  It is not 9% increase.

To get ah jib kor voted out, Mahathir promised the rakyat ten things.  Yes, ten things. Other than abolishing GST, which is one of the ten things he promised, what else did he deliver to the rakyat?

The old fox knew that GST was needed to run the economy.  So what did he do after cutting off this important source of government revenue?  He brought back SST.  The jhks got pwned big time by the fox!

Do you want to believe the oppies?  You think Singapore can run by printing SingDollars?  If we remove GST, or even lower it, there is no other way but to raise Income Tax to make up for the loss in inland revenue.  And I'd bet that's what the oppies would do because that is what they have to do.  No other way.

Everyone, both local and foreign, pays GST for his spending.  Singaporeans are given GST rebates, but foreigners are not.  Why are you all asking for GST to be removed, or reduced, or not increased? I am happy to see foreigners paying more taxes, while we, on the surface, appear to be paying but are getting it refunded in the form of GST Rebates!

In edmw, a lot of jhks are pretending to be Singaporeans, trying to make the government think that these "netizens" are Singaporeans, and getting hurt by the COL because of GST.  They have an ulterior motive, an agenda.  Of course, you are doing the same because you are a jhk... Rolleyes

CASE should come out to explain this to the general public.

They should not sit in their aircon rooms waiting for peepur to complain.

Any increase in prices that is more than 1% is sheer profiteering.

31.12.23
Kali pok $1.80
Mee pok $4.00

1.1.24
Kali pok $2.20
Mee pok $4.50

Ask them why, they answer:  GST increase!  GST 9% you don't know meh?

Prices are displayed, nothing is hidden from sight.

You still pay.  Willing buyer willing seller.  There is nothing CASE can do about it.

But they can educate the general public that increases of more than 1% is not justifiable.  Suppliers can only increase their prices by more than that if the cost of their raw materials which they get from the importer or wholesaler went up by more than 1%.
