10 DOWNING STREET:
RISHI SUNAK - OUT
KEIR STARMER - IN
In a dramatic display, greater than a circus entering a village , Keir Starmer moves into 10 Downing Street after the Labour Party won Britain's 4th July General Election by a thumping victory of 411 seats; the biggest in British history.
Keir Starmer as the newly minted British Prime Minister hardly put a wrong step forward when he delivered his maiden speech in front of 10 Downing Street on the 5th July 2024.
Attired in his finest suit, Keir Starmer paid tribute to Rishi Sunak for being the first Asian as Britain's Prime Minister and to the hard work and dedication he gave in carrying out his leadership.
He was gracious to the outgoing Prime Minister, Rishi, and completely avoided mentioning the failures of the previous Conservative government but instead focused on the urgent need for change.
But making impeccable speeches is a typical Englishman's strength and Keir's speech met all expectations . He stressed change would begin " today". If you believe that then I have a bridge to sell you.
He said, " I will not work after 6 pm" . The mention of the western working inclination gained world attention and it was news in the social media. Those from his party and supporters who stood at the wing and garbed seemingly in less than glamorous outfits, clapped gleefully in agreement.
What other changes can Keir Starmer bring to Britain? He mentioned broadly several areas for change but few expected them to be possible. For example it is unlikely he will make a dent on British foreign policy especially over wars in Ukraine, Gaza, Middle East and Taiwan because the Labour Party was involved neck deep with the Tories in supporting these conflicts for years. Does Starmer have the courage to change course and plant the seeds for world peace? Time will tell.
By saying he would not work after 6 pm, Starmer gave out the wrong signal to the nation about the dire need to be competitive in the world. Britain has long lost its greatness. Its naval prowess made famous by the old saying "Britanicca rules the waves" is today a pathetic shadow of its past . Rather than pulling the brakes, Britain needs to seek out its strength and work at marketing them world wide past 6 pm. Coddling Britain in a world that has grown highly competitive is not the way forward.
Starmer said he would unite the country and treat every citizen with respect. He would bring change to the Labour Party and " brick by brick " he would rebuild the infrastructure of opportunity.
Saying is one thing . Doing is another thing . He should take the first plane to Russia, carry an olive branch and talk peace with Putin and then take the next flight to China and have tea with President Xi. If he could do that, real change would happen for the betterment of Britain.
