The sultan of Brunei, Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, surprised everyone by taking over the wheel of the official vehicle and driving Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to Seri Perdana, Putrajaya, while on a special visit to Malaysia today.
Shortly after arriving at the Royal Malaysian Air Force base in Subang, Sultan Hassanal decided to drive the car himself, with Anwar seated in the front passenger seat.
Also seated in the vehicle was the son of the sultan, Pengiran Muda Abdul Mateen Bolkiah.
The car made its way to Putrajaya from the RMAF base about 41km away while being escorted by a team of outriders and security vehicles.
Earlier, Anwar was on hand to receive the Brunei ruler and his delegation. Also present was Chief Secretary Zuki Ali.
The sultan inspected a guard of honour mounted by the army, led by Faudzi Che Hashim.
It was Sultan Hassanal’s first meeting with Anwar since Anwar was appointed the 10th prime minister.
