All.successful societies suffer from both inertia and complacency. It's a common disease.

This disease is cured by competition. There is no better motivation for politicians than the fear of losing.

The biggest mistakes voters can make is to return the same party to power no matter what they do. That feeds the complacency.

The biggest harm a society can do to itself is to think it has done so well and is so successful it has has to preserve the system that has taken it there because to move further forward you need to constantly improve and reinvent yourself. There is no end game. The process is perpetual.

I, being poor, have only my dreams; I have spread my dreams under your feet; Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.
