The United Nations has denounced the hangings and called for Singapore to place a moratorium on the death penalty.

Despite growing international pressure on the issue, Singapore insists that the death penalty is an effective deterrent against drug trafficking.

The wealthy financial centre has some of the world’s toughest anti-drug laws – trafficking more than 500 grams of cannabis or more than 15g of heroin can result in the death penalty

Death penalty is a must for drug trafficking. In fact Spore quite lenient already corruption cases the perpetrator is not death. In China very serious corruption case is eat bullets. That is also why in Spore now got high profile case of a ministerial level under investigation. Even if later found guilty he also won't get death penalty.

IMHO Spore should follow China and introduce death penalty for serious corruption cases. This will have a deterrent effect on future ministerial level ppl who intend to makan suap to think twice.
