No more ice cream with Mt Fuji: Japan train line phases out snack carts

TOKYO – Passengers on Japan’s super-fast bullet trains have long enjoyed ordering coffee, ice cream or boxed lunches from staff pushing a snack cart, savouring the treats as they whip past landmarks such as Mount Fuji.

But faced with a looming labour shortage and a trend for more people to buy food before boarding the train, on-board snack cart services between the cities of Tokyo and Osaka will reach the end of the line on Oct 31.

No more snack carts from 31 Oct so no more whatever from the snack carts. But can still get ice cream before boarding and take the ice cream onto the train.

Many years ago on business trip there got take that bullet train from Tokyo to Osaka, leecall was in afternoon so already taken lunch before boarding and no appetite to try out the lunchbox as was told by the agent ish one of the must try famous item when onboard. Only got order the kopi and ice-cream during that 2~3hrs ride, but didn't know the ice-cream ish supposed to be a popular item too. Sad

There was a time when the country asked ordinary men to do extraordinary things.

But now, they'll only do it for money.
