Ukraine and Russia on May 23 began the largest exchange of prisoners of war (POWs) since Russia's war in 2014, a Kyiv Independent journalist reported from site of the swap. President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Telegram that 390 Ukrainian prisoners had been exchanged as part of the first stage of the swap. "We are bringing our people home1.st stage of the '1000-for-1000' exchange agreement has been carried out," Zelensky wrote. "Today – 390 people. On Saturday and Sunday, we expect the exchange to continue." Exchange will see 1,000 POWs from both sides return home, in a deal agreed during direct talks in Istanbul on May 16, the first such talks between Moscow and Kyiv since 2022.

Ukraine counterattacks proved successful, by end, Ukrainians had ensured 95% free of enemy presence, securing its functionality as a defensive position, as holding Bahatyr is vital. By nullifying all Russian gains and making the Russians lose hundreds of soldiers for nothing, the Ukrainians underscored futility of Russian attacks & general Russian approach to war, as thousands are thrown each day into the meatgrinder with more political than military logic and yet the results are missing.
Overall, Russia’s reckless assault on Bahatyr achieved nothing but losses. If they have managed to establish control there, the Russians would have had a launchpad to undermine the defense of Kostiantynopil and force Ukrainian units to retreat, not because of direct defeat, but due to severed supply lines and the looming threat of encirclement. For Ukraine, however, the successful defense and counteraction show how discipline, coordination, and clever usage of weapons like drones and mines can turn even a vulnerable frontline village into a fortress and a graveyard for the invaders.

The escalation between Russian and Estonia continue to spiral out control, as Russian forces detained a ship with Estonian cargo a few kilometers of the shore. The hybrid attacks on Estonia are only increasing, the country launched a massive defense revamp campaign, & conducted largest joint military training with NATO allies, & started considering the creation of extensive minefields along the Russian border. Recently, tensions have escalated significantly after Russian authorities detained the Green Admire, a Greek-owned, Liberia-flagged oil tanker that had just departed from Estonia’s Sillamae port. Vessel was en route to Rotterdam carrying shale oil when it passed through Russian waters, part of a mutually agreed-upon safe maritime corridor shared by Russia, Estonia, and Finland. Despite adhering to this protocol, Russia intercepted the ship and towed it to port to impose a fine. The Estonian Foreign Ministry called the detention a violation of maritime norms has since announced it will reroute all naval traffic exclusively through Estonian territorial waters. Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna commented this incident shows Russia continues to behave unpredictably. A recent Russian airspace violation as Estonian navy try to attempted to intercept an oil tanker a part of Russian shadow fleet, incident is just the latest in a long list of Russian provocations directed at Estonia.
Only last year, Russia published a draft resolution indicating plans to unilaterally redraw maritime borders in Gulf of Finland, effectively claiming parts of Finnish & Latvian waters b4 quietly withdrawing the threat without explanation. Adding to the friction, Russian border guards removed more than half of the buoys marking the
Estonia-Russia border on Narva River. Despite repeated Estonian diplomatic requests, the markers have not been returned, leaving river traffic vulnerable to accidental border violations.
Meanwhile, GPS jamming, believed to originate from Kaliningrad, has caused hundreds of aviation disruptions in the region’s aerospace. In 2023 alone, Estonian authorities received 307 reports of interference, 85% of which were GPS-related. Though air traffic remains safe thanks to manual navigation practices, the disruptions underscore a deliberate Russian effort to sow instability.
In response to these hybrid threats, Estonia has embarked on a major defensive initiative. Estonia’s Center for Defense Investments is launching the construction of 600 concrete bunkers along the Russian border, which represents a significant shift in national defense thinking. Romania’s firm stance has international backing from US, has resumed high-altitude surveillance flights over the Black Sea, with RQ-4B Global Hawk surveillance drone now flying again on strategic intelligence-gathering flights, launched from NATO’s Sigonella Air Base in Sicily, can last over 30 hrs sweep vast swaths of land & sea. Drones r equipped w/advanced sensors capable detecting ground & naval targets with precision, allowing real-time updates to both Romania and Ukraine, resumption such flights signals a broader U.S. shift after a long pause following Donald Trump's return to office. British & French assets had filled surveillance gap, U.S. assets are again visibly asserting their presence over NATO’s southeastern flank.
This renewed support is not just for show. It directly contributes to real-world battlefield outcomes. Recently, Ukraine’s Security Service launched a successful naval drone strike against a Russian radar installation on an abandoned oil rig in the Black Sea. Likely aided by U.S. reconnaissance data, the strike neutralized Russian early-warning capabilities used to monitor both Ukrainian and allied aerial activity, including American drones. These installations also helped Russia detect and intercept Ukrainian drone and missile strikes aimed at Crimea. The destruction of this radar platform not only enhances Ukraine’s strike potential but also removes a tool Russia could use to track or provoke NATO aircraft, something Moscow has attempted before through dangerous interceptions.
Romania’s position is uniquely sensitive, and the measures reflect a wider pattern. Not only does it border Ukraine and share the Black Sea with Russia, but it also hosts vital NATO infrastructure. Its ports and airfields are increasingly being used for alliance logistics and surveillance. Russian provocations here risk both confrontation and accidental escalation. By taking firm control of its airspace and welcoming enhanced allied reconnaissance, Romania is becoming a central pillar of Black Sea security. As Russia continues to provoke NATO’s eastern flank through airspace violations, electronic warfare, sabotage, and hybrid border destabilization, more member states are taking serious action. Romania joins growing list of countries making significant defense decisions in response to Russian threats. Law to shoot down drones not only strengthens Romanian sovereignty also inspire similar legislation in other NATO nations bordering Russia or Belarus.
Overall, Russia’s continued provocations have triggered a domino effect across Eastern Europe. Romania, long on the defensive, is now actively strengthening its posture. With NATO surveillance efforts back in full swing and Ukraine intensifying its naval capabilities, Romania is not just protecting itself, it’s contributing to a regional security framework designed to deter Russian aggression. Romania’s actions mark a new phase of firmness and preparedness on the alliance’s southeastern flank to enforce NATO interests more powerfully.

Interestingly, idea isn’t new. US Air Force and the University of Michigan explored a similar concept in the 1950s, called the Oblique Detonation Engine (ODE). NASA took the baton in the 1970s, eyeing speeds up to Mach 16. But persistent issues with stabilising detonation waves and optimising fuel-air mixing led to the US shelving the technology.
The US Navy’s “dream shell” project also pursued hypersonic capability around 2012, aiming for Mach 5 with satellite guidance. That programme ran until 2017 but was ultimately discontinued by 2021. China’s recent breakthrough claim, reported by its state media, was achieved by researchers from the National University of Defense Technology. Their small-scale RDE, tested in a wind tunnel, reportedly maintained continuous operation for 10 minutes — an unprecedented duration. They used ethylene and oxygen fuel, igniting it into a sustained detonation wave, while keeping the engine temperature in check and thrust levels high.
This engine, if scalable and stable, could power next-gen hypersonic weapons, spaceplanes, or ultra-fast aircraft. Hypersonic weapons are considered game-changers in modern warfare due to their speed, maneuverability, and difficulty to intercept. They can carry both nuclear and conventional payloads.
China, Russia, and the US are locked in a tight race for hypersonic dominance. But if China’s test results hold up under independent scrutiny, it may have just pulled ahead. Still, without outside verification, skepticism remains. China is known for maintaining secrecy around military tech, and so far, international experts have not confirmed the breakthrough

Armed Forces of Ukraine successfully use new modernized military systems, such as “Sky Sentinel”, an autonomous air defence turret, and GOGOL-M, a “mother-drone” capable of delivering smaller FPV drones as far as 300-km.
After massive strikes on Ukrainian cities conducted by the Russian military, the West reacted with strong support of Kyiv. Donald Trump is annoyed by Putin’s hesitation to end hostilities. Ukraine has just carried out again its to force Potin with a largest drone strike of the war, targeting key Russian military-industrial sites deep inside Moscow oblast. The attack crippled missile and drone factories critical to Russia’s ongoing war effort. With precision, Ukraine struck at the heart of Putin’s weapons supply chain, disrupting production of cruise missiles and components essential to future assaults. This bold move signals a shift in strategy—and a warning Russia can’t ignore. But this black SAO Xi of China is helping Putin again with supply so that Russia can continue it war to make many to suffer into 4th years on Ukraine.

✓✓✓ Look at different points. we will examine a very different picture. What happened behind the front lines but directly affected the course of the war.
✓ In the Russia-Ukraine war, where every day brings a new development, this time the cameras are focused on the internal structure of the Russian army rather than the front line of the battlefield. Because the latest information shows that the war continues not only with cannons and rifles, but also with the rottenness inside the Russia army.
✓✓ Allegations that discipline in the Russian army has been replaced by anarchy, that there is no trust between soldiers and that betrayals on the front line have become commonplace are shaking the agenda. Recent videos and reports point to shocking incidents of soldiers robbing their own wounded comrades, commanders changing their posts in exchange for bribes, & even some soldiers being killed and their ammunition stolen.![]()
✓✓✓ Russia, which has suffered many strategic failures since the beginning of the war, is now struggling to cope with internal indiscipline. This has not only led to failures on the front line, but has also deeply undermined confidence in the Kremlin's authority. ( All this But what exactly is behind these allegations? Is there really a collapse within the Russian military? Why has the military order that Putin tried to establish degenerated so quickly? And most strikingly, why are soldiers allegedly targeting their wounded comrades? Let's take a look at the developments together.
A potential vulnerability for the Ukrainians in the defense of both Pokrovsk and Kostyantynivka. Ukrainians understand that this Russian breakthrough will play a pivotal role in the upcoming Russian summer offensive in their effort to take both citie, the Russian offensive effort on other frontlines surrounding Pokrovsk and Kostyantynivka is slow, characterized by brutal grinding battles that lead to meager territorial gains. Meanwhile, in area of the breakthrough, the Russians managed to advance over 10 km initial positions at Vozdvizhenka in less than 2 months of fighting, placing them just 12 km away from Kostyantinivka. Such a continued rate of advance could allow Russian forces to reach city unless Ukrainians successfully contain them and stabilize situation.
Russians achieved territorial gains through multi-phase assault tactics systematically locate, bombard,& overrun Ukrainian positions. Russians start by probing Ukraine defenses w/small reconnaissance units made up of expendable “suicide squads”, hoping to reveal Ukrainian firing positions several squads have been sent forward, able to accurately identify Ukrainian positions, b4 hitting with intense artillery & glide bomb, then bombardment, added Russian infantry squads are sent forward to damage and engage in close-quarters combat if any Ukrainian defenders remain. Meanwhile, Russian drones work to isolate Ukrainians by monitoring, cutting off potential Ukrainian retreat or reinforcement routes, limiting their tactical flexibility. This leaves Ukrainian defenders with a choice: either remain in position and risk being overrun after bombardment, or attempt a retreat under threat of Russian drones. Regardless of the loss of positions, this Russian tactic usually results in a casualty ratio of at least three to one in favor of the Ukrainians.
For the Ukrainians counter enemy tactic. They taking out initial Russian suicide squads with mines, drone-dropped grenades,& kamikaze drone strikes. This ensures Ukrainian defenders do not have to reveal their position by firing on the Russian assault groups implementation of these drone killer has reportedly increased enemy casualty ratio to, as high as seven to one, with a number of cases going even higher. As a result, these Russian tactics typically succeed only when Ukrainian forces lack sufficient drone support to detect and eliminate the Russian recon squads before they reach the Ukrainian positions, and can commence their bombing strikes. This is why, in response to enemy breakthrough, Ukrainians redeployed elite drone brigades to stabilize the front. The units deployed include the Phoenix drone regiment, whose elite drone operators have already started to successfully counter and destroy Russian heavy equipment& infantry on move are further complemented by ground components of the Anne of Kiev Brigade, assigned to reinforce and defend key ground positions from the Russian onslaught while the drone units relieve the pressure. Their experience with past successful counterattacks on the western flank of Pokrovsk will enable them to conduct an active defense, and possibly even push the Russians back around their recent breakthrough. Overall, along the Pokrovsk-Kostyantynivka highway, where Ukrainians responded promptly to the threat by redeploying elite drone units, the Phoenix Regiment, to counter Russian assaults, as well as the Anne of Kiev assault brigade, Ukrainians are effectively closing any weakness in their defensive with newly redeployed units who GT. succeed in their respective missions, they will prevent then consolidating their positions & halt their assaults.

Tactically, this kind of assault depends on speed and shock, catching defenders off balance b4 reinforcements can respond. But Ukrainian forces were ready, & result was a disaster for Russia. In what can only be described as a massacre, dozens of Russian troops were killed in open terrain as they attempted to cross mined fields & exposed roads. Ukrainian kamikaze drones struck with devastating precision, obliterating motorcycle teams mid-advance. Minefields tore through columns of bikes and quads. Some Russian soldiers did manage to infiltrate parts of Bahatyr during night movements or under the cover of fire. When this happened, Ukrainian special forces launched immediate clearing operations. These are not random responses, but pre-coordinated sweeps designed to prevent Russian troops from consolidating within village. Ukrainian tactics here focus on denying the enemy the time or space to build up critical mass inside the settlement. If left unchecked, even small Russian infiltration units could become a foothold capable of drawing more forces and exerting rear pressure on Ukrainian lines to the north. The counterattacks proved successful, and by the end, Ukrainians had ensured the village was 95% free of enemy presence
As dropped by drones finished remained. Russian corpses and wreckage littered the approaches turning the attempted assault into a bloodbath. The attack failed to even reach staging objectives, most of the force was annihilated b4 reaching their mission.
