The planned special summit between U.S. President Joe Biden and leaders of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) has reportedly been postponed, after the leaders of one or more Southeast Asian governments said they were unable to attend.......

Then, in an article on Tuesday, Bangkok Post columnist Kavi Chongkittavorn claimed that the timing of the event had been the subject of some friction between the two sides. “After several schedule changes,” he wrote, “ASEAN leaders became exasperated about the proposed meeting with Mr Biden in Washington D.C.” He added, “If there is no change to the proposed dates of the summit, it is almost certain that half of the ASEAN leaders will not be able to attend .”

Singapore PM to meet Biden at White House on Tuesday

US President Joe Biden will welcome Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong of Singapore to the White House on Tuesday, White House press secretary Jen Psaki said in a statement.

During the visit, Biden will review efforts to ensure a free and open Indo-Pacific and discuss the war in Ukraine, the statement said.

It said Biden looked forward to deepening cooperation on issues including upholding freedom of the seas, supply chain resiliency, the crisis in Myanmar, and fighting climate change.

Lee’s office said his working visit to the US from Saturday to the following Saturday, April 2, would build on a “robust, longstanding and multi-faceted relationship”.

In Washington, he will meet senior members of the US House of Representatives and the US Senate and speak at the Council on Foreign Relations.

He will also travel to New York to meet UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and industry and financial sector leaders.
