Capt 何永道- The last surviving WW2 Flying Tiger pilot pass away in SG.

Captain Ho Weng Toh, was one of the founding pilots of Singapore Airlines but speaks ever so proudly about his love for China. To him, China remains his motherland — he admits, “Sorry, I’m a little chauvinistic. I love China very much.”

In this reporter's eyes, that is not “chauvinism”. It is the genuine sentiment of a man whose roots are in Guangdong but was born in Ipoh, Malaysia in 1920 and has lived in Singapore with his family since 1953. It is the heartfelt declaration of a WWII pilot who was once ready to lay down his life for China. It is an everlasting bond and a sense of identity that needs no apology.

There are researches that indicate career pilots tend to live longer than average pple in their generation.
It could be many continued to live very active and healthy life after retirement...
Pilots like those from war veteran aces Chuck Yeager (97) & Gabby Gabreski (83) or astronauts  Neil Armstrong  (82),  Michael Collins (90) and Buzz Aldrin (still alive at 97)

There is alot to love about China..the technology, the people and its history... but its a heart break to see it going back to Mao era and repeating old mistakes that hurt the Chinese people

A year before Captain Ho was born in British-colony Malaya, China had a student revolution in 1919 which was triggered by patriotism in anger against the European  in Versailles Treaty...That revolution today is known as May 4th Movement -which lead to the rise of CPC.

Ho himeself even though not a Chinese citizen, grew up understanding the same anger under the European-ruled Malaya.

That anger and being treated unfairly, share the same experience as the student in China - that ultimately lead him to study in China and eventually join the resistance force against the Jap. That is not some "blind" love, but a love written in blood....

Ppl like sgbuffett who does not read Modern China history, naturally do not understand why countless overseas Chinese like Capt Ho volunteered to defend China and how  deeply intertwined we are with China's 20th century events.

Long life doesn’t mean good karma.
Imagine during WWII, he had seen the brutality of human mankind.
Probably took very long to get over the mental trauma.

前人种树后人乘凉, we may not exist if not their sacrifice, let alone success.
it is important we keep history and memorial in good order and condition.
