He said downsizing is painful because of the cost to reinstate the place for mall owners, not because his staff will lose jobs. That's maybe the root cause of the problem.

to exist long term. cinema needs to own the space they operate. else the rental is a very heavy burden.
owning it, pay by installment. over time it will be paid and installment ends. so can operate like low cots.

Problem is cinema has to depend from Block Blaster Movies, which not always have. Making one block blaster movies which so call content is there , storyplot is good , with good actors and actress will take even one year or so to produce.
I always don't believe those just use months to produce will make it which already show. You see those movies just only few months produced cannot make it. Now a days Audiences expect a good movie aka the story plot is good. Of course with good actors and actress involve.
like that Donnie Y movie he ownself direct , not bad. I heard a lot audience like it.
