After its maiden flight, the development moved quickly forward with at least 6 prototypes as the design evolves over several years.

The new engine Shenyang WS-15 (涡扇-15) turbofan engine has reportedly entered serial production to be used in latest update to J-20. Unlike the lower thrust WS-10C and Russia's AL-31FN used in early batch J-20, the WS-15 represented a heavily enhanced variant of a fourth generation clean sheet new design which is expected to remain in production in enhanced forms past past the year 2050...This also means the J-20 production rate is no longer dependent on supply rate from Russia.

This J20 plane is a area denial or sniper plane. Mainly doing sabotage.

USA jets are air superiority. J35 will be that category.

The Chinese so far has not say what J-20 key mission will be. But based a few known designs like:

- Recent powerplant upgrades,
- Apparent lack of internal cannon
- At least 6 internally-loaded long range AAMs like PL-15.
- Able to supercruise over great distances,

Many speculate the heavy fighter primary role is long range air superiority interdiction and deep penetration into enemy controlled airspace...to kill high-value defended targets like tankers, AWACS and control command hubs - which US forces are heavily dependent on.

A 4K footage will give an idea the size of the jet as it taxi and stop next to the visitors at the Zhuhai airshow in Dec'22.

You still live in the past? Rotfl

Now modern fighter plane is less on agility but more on weaponry and avionics lah.

Why US bans China 5G tech. The main reason is 5G tech can be used in military lah.

The Chinese had given strong hints that J-20 is also position as commanding platform for multiple "sleek and smaller" combat drones working as "loyal wingmen"...This definitely require advanced hi-speed links like 5 or 6G etc

A J-20 pilot shared his view when he has 4 drones under his control and how it can help him in greater detection range + drones can execute missions that cannot be handled by human.

An unusual close up display of 4-ship J-20 formation show up at recent Changchun airshow .

It is clear China's stealth fighter fleet size has exceeded US's F-22 of just 186 planes with more to come from at least 2 production plants.

Close in merge with full burner - You will never see any F-35 or F-22 pilots doing this in public demo...

Engines are still on WS-10.

Frontal approach clearly showing its EOTS (Electro-Optical Targeting System)

This passive sensor allows the J-20 to tack target without emiiting any signal, unlike radar.
