Erik Solheim, retired Norwegian politician, wrote on the internet yesterday that he went for a run in Beijing yesterday and marvelled at how clear and blue the sky was. Here's an extract:

"It's amazing how China has gone to war against pollution and won. Ten years ago I would never go running in Beijing. The sky was dark, breathing a nightmare. Now inhaling Beijing air is simply pleasant.

"Nearly all taxis and more and more cars are electric. They are visible with green number plates. The metro is world's busiest. City buses are electric and there are sharing bikes at metro stations and local centres.

"60% of the world's electric cars, 70% of high speed green rail, 60% of metros and 95% of electic buses run in China alone.

"Crazily, Western politicians have started complaining that China makes too many high quality electric cars. Why doesn't the world start competing and stop complaining about China's green leadership?"
