Not much impact on the market and not really a big crash in the US tech market

So funny, Open AI is not open ie free in an open country, deepseek is free in a closed (communist?) country.

LOL!  Indeed - What DeepSeek had achieved is beyond just the technical milestone in the AI industry - It basically destroy AI coy who seek to control the industry by means of Closed-source...aka getting users to pay $$$$ for AI services.  Big Grin

Open-Source V. Closed AI
Open-source AI, according to the Open Source Initiative, is “an AI system made available under terms and in a way that grants the freedom to use the system for any purpose and without having to ask for permission, study how the system works and inspect its components, modify the system for any purpose, including to change its output, share the system for others to use with or without modifications, for any purpose.

BEIJING/HONG KONG/SINGAPORE, Feb 25 (Reuters) - Deepseek had planned to release R2

DeepSeek is looking to press home its advantage. Rivals are still digesting the implications of R1, which was built with less-powerful Nvidia chips but is competitive with those developed at the costs of hundreds of billions of dollars by U.S. tech giants. The Chinese startup triggered a $1 trillion-plus sell-off in global equities markets last month with a cut-price AI reasoning model that outperformed many Western competitors. Now, the Hangzhou-based firm is accelerating the launch of the successor to January's R1 model, according to three people familiar with the company. Deepseek had planned to release R2 in early May but now wants it out as early as possible, two of them said, without providing specifics.

The Chinese will do to AI what they had done for Smart phones, 5G, Solar panels, EV,  Digital currency, HSR, ship building etc etc....affordable, accessible and commercially competitive - All of which will scare the West until they wanna "ban" them.  Big Grin
