Indonesia Deputy Defense Minister Donny Ermawan Taufanto says the country is studying the potential procurement of China’s J-10 fighter jets..
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, Donny responded to growing speculation about Indonesia’s interest in acquiring the multirole combat aircraft from China, following a recent visit by Indonesian Air Force Chief of Staff, Air Chief Marshal M. Tonny Harjono to the country.
“We are a neutral country. We’re not bound to any military alliances. That gives us the flexibility to procure weapons from any nations, China included,” he said.
“If the aircraft meets our criteria and is offered at a competitive price, then why not?” he added.

This is crazy...Indonesian Defence minister himself on social media said this:
We also discussed the readiness to send Indonesian Air Force (TNI AU) pilots to China for J-10 fighter jet training, as well as evaluating defense equipment production facilities,” said Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin via his Instagram account (May 30, 2025).Â
Sjafrie shared this after meeting Indonesia’s Ambassador to China, Djauhari Oratmangun.

Interestingly, around the same week, the Indonesian signed "letter of intent" with the French when French President Macron visited in Jakarta recently...Â
