Sales fell to 3.75 million tonnes, almost 9 per cent down on May, industry sources and government data showed.

Vessels calling specifically for refuelling in Singapore, the world's largest bunkering hub, fell to 2,940 - 7.2 per cent lower than in May and down from 3,242 in June last year, said the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) on Wednesday (July 13).

.........

He added: "Many ships resorted to bunkering in other regional ports like Zhoushan in China, where bunker prices for low-sulphur marine fuels were being offered at a discount to Singapore for most of the month."

Mr Yaw Yan Chong, a director at Refinitiv Oil Research, said the loss of gasoil exports from Russia, a key supplier to Europe, forced buyers there to seek alternative sources, sparking a demand surge that drove refining margins for the product to record highs.

The Chinese years ago predicted SG port will become less competitive since our trade is heavily reliant on USD....which the Yanks had been printing like crazy after their 2007/8 financial crisis...

Why think crooked?   Singapore does not sell marine oil.  It is companies like BP,  Shell,  Exxon etc who sell the oil to the shipper.   If their price is higher,  these shippers will go to other place just like Singaporeans going to JB to pump petrol.   It has nothing to do with Russia.

Singapore is still the top shipping centre by ranking lah.. dun think crooked

Don't know how many times this message has been thrown around.

If Singapore has to choose, think it would choose to be neutral afterall, this is always the stand of LKY. If it is forced to choose between USA and Russia, it would definitely choose USA. Logic is simple.

Singapore is US's 17th largest goods trading partner with 60 billion trades in 2020. As for Russia, it is a miserable 1.3 billion
