Chinese trio trick 77-year-old woman with ‘black magic’ scam, steal S$44k in cash and jewellery 

In November 2019, three Chinese nationals tricked a 77-year-old Singaporean woman into believing she was "cursed and needed a ritual". They swapped her bag containing S$44,000 in cash and jewellery for junk items. On 18 July 2025, one of them, Li Yulian, pleaded guilty in court.
