Ethnic rebel groups in Shan and Rakhine states dealt the military its biggest blows this year. including the loss of command headquarters in Shan and Rakhine states, several rebel groups said. Within weeks, The Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army had captured Lashio, a city of 130,000 that is region’s commercial admin hub and a gateway to China. Myanmar launches new FF-135 frigate, largest ever built in its domestic yards. Navy launched its new FF-135 frigate commissioned and 2 new corvettes in commemoration of 77th anniversary.
Shipbuilding was entirely domestic though, the technology fit still made use of outside equipment. Details on launch were sketchy, but it was expected that the King Thalun, like the Kyan Sittha-class frigates, would combine Russian and Chinese elements in its bridge technology and combat suite.

Myanmar’s junta regime chose to proceed with a population survey intended to lay groundwork for planned elections, the pro-democracy resistance has condemned as illegitimate. Census revealed regime could only carry out assessments in 145 of the 330 townships nationwide, accounting for just 44% of country’s total population. The survey also suggests that of 145 townships in junta territory, 127 of these are under partial control.

A previous census, which was carried out under President Thein Sein’s government in 2014, failed to collect data in Kachin, Karen, and Rakhine states due to security conditions, leaving nearly 1.2 million people out of the count. Latest military-conducted census indicates inability to collect info from an estimated 19 million people.

All these elections arranged by junta is fake. Military shd not be involved or interfere in democratic process. The rebels forces are increasing in size and wil overrun the capital soon. The downfall of military junta is imminent. China and Russia better back-off and not provide military junta with weapons.

AA attacks Myanmar army base on Rakhine State’s eastern border as airstrikes continue
Anti-regime forces targeted an outpost less than two miles from the state line, menacing several of the military’s armaments factories in Pandaung Township, Bago Region.
Fighting intensified near the border between Rakhine State and Bago Region this week as the Arakan Army (AA) and allied forces assaulted a junta outpost in Taungup Township, Rakhine State just west of the boundary.

The army’s “Taung Pone Gyi” outpost has been under attack since early January by anti-regime forces led by the AA, an ethnic armed organisation that has captured most of the Rakhine State’s townships from the Myanmar military, a source connected to the organisation said.“The AA is currently attacking the Taung Pone Gyi outpost, and clashes are also expected to intensify near the Rakhine-Magway and Rakhine-Ayeyarwady borders,” said the source, a member of a fighting force allied with the AA.

Rakhine Rebels Attack Myanmar Junta Checkpoint on Bago Border- The Irrawaddy says
the ethnic Arakan Army (AA) on Wednesday attacked a junta base on the border of Rakhine State & Bago Region that is crucial for the defense of an arms production hub.

The heavily fortified checkpoint in Taung Pone Gyi village sits in the Arakan Mountains adjacent to Pandaung Township in western Bago. Junta warplanes strafed Taung Pone Gyi and surrounding villages during the attack, leaving multiple casualties and forcing residents to flee to the nearby town of Okshitpin, local who fled the fighting, it Taungup-Pandaung road in the Arakan Mountains, heard several people were killed and injured,” he told The Irrawaddy.

Taung Pone Gyi checkpoint sits high up in the Arakan Mountains, about halfway on the road weaving from Rakhine State’s Taungup to Bago’s is key to defending a cluster of arms factories on the other flank. If it were to fall, AA would have a clear path to Okshitpin on the junction with Pathein-Monywa road & Pandaung beyond. Five of Bago’s 7 ordnance factories (known as KaPaSa in Burmese) are spread across Pandaung, is also home to state-owned heavy industries that date back to time of Burma Socialist Programme Party.

The attack on Taung Pone Gyi came after the AA captured Taungup, which housed 5th Military Op Command of Myanmar military. The AA has now seized 14 of Rakhine’s 17 townships, & retreating regime has bolstered defenses on border of Magwe, Bago and Ayeyarwady regions for fear that armed conflict could spill over.

SINGAPORE – Record seizures of synthetic drugs in East & South-east Asia have set off alarm bells, as reports emerge of heightened production in Myanmar amid chaos of civil war. There's growing concern organised crime syndicates are slashing prices of methamphetamine, Ecstasy, ketamine and yaba, a combination of methamphetamine & caffeine, to move more illicit products in region. Shan State in Myanmar is known leading source of synthetic drugs in the region, while Thailand is a major transit route for illicit drugs from so-called Golden Triangle region where north of kingdom, Laos & Myanmar meet.

A 2024 United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) report showed that the authorities in Thailand in 2023 seized 648.9 million yaba tablets & 26.4 tonnes of crystal methamphetamine, commonly known as Ice, compared with 395 million yaba tablets and 17.6 tonnes of Ice in 2019. Thailand’s Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) told The Straits Times situation in kingdom is worse now than in 2019, when ST travelled to Thailand’s northern Chiang Rai province to investigate impact of drug smuggling @Thailand-Myanmar border. South-east Asia was then the largest & fastest-growing meth market in the world, with seizures rising more than eightfold between 2007 & 2017.

ONCB told ST. Thai authorities had seized 488 million yaba tablets and almost 10 tonnes of Ice along the Thailand-Myanmar border in 2024 as at Sept. Said drug enforcement agency: “Ice having a swing in last 3-years. We can see smuggling into southern Thailand to be distributed to 3rd countries.”Added ongoing civil war in Myanmar has allowed organised crime syndicates to increase manufacturing capacity, with “potential to produce an infinite amount of drugs”.
