Voters See Trump as a Greater Threat to Democracy, Think Trials Are Fair and Should Be Expedient

A new survey from Data for Progress, in collaboration with Zeteo, examines the state of the 2024 presidential election race between Joe Biden and Donald Trump, voters’ opinions on Trump’s legal woes, and which of the two candidates they think is a greater threat to democracy.

These findings are consistent with Data for Progress’ last head-to-head survey, conducted March 27-29, in which Biden was up 1 point over Trump in the two-way race, but lost more of his vote share to third-party candidates compared with Trump in the six-way race.

Furthermore, the survey also finds that Biden’s favorability rating among the electorate is -11 points, with 55% of voters saying they have an unfavorable opinion of him and 44% saying they have a favorable opinion. In comparison, Trump’s favorability rating is -15, with 57% of voters saying they have an unfavorable opinion of him and 42% saying they have a favorable opinion. Trump has a slightly worse rating than Biden among Independents.

The polling finds that, in a two-way race, Biden receives 47% of the vote and Trump receives 46% of the vote. This includes a 45% to 41% edge for Biden among Independent voters.

Donald Trump leads Joe Biden across crucial 2024 swing states

NYT/Siena survey is grim reading for Democratic president less than six months before November’s election.

It’s personal: Biden steps up ridicule of Trump...Mr Biden and his campaign have ramped up personal attacks on Trump with just 6-mths tiil November’s US presidential election. Updard: MAY 14, 2024

WASHINGTON - From joking that he wished Donald Trump had has been mocking notoriously thin skin. Mr Biden and his campaign have ramped up personal attacks on Republican with just to November’s US presidential election, 81-year-old taking an aggressively sarcastic and derisive tone.
In doing so, the Democrat is trying to flip the script on a man who also loves to dish out political insults. But Mr Biden’s 2024 campaign insists it’s not gratuitous and is designed to get across a political message.

“President Biden and our campaign are going to make clear the fundamental choice voters face in this election,” Mr Biden campaign spokesman James Singer told AFP.

But for “Donald Trump promised to make America great, made America like him:

Jobless, weak, and diminished,” he said. “Joe Biden’s campaign is about U.S.A. people and future he believes we can all build together.” The Former president Trump has long shown a genius for dominating the news cycle with outlandish statements and political attacks. For years, he’s mocked Mr Biden over his age, despite being only four yrs younger at 77, and his lifelong stutter.

Mr Biden is now gunning for his own headlines Vs Trump..

Mike Johnson and Vivek Ramaswamy: Republicans flock to court to show they stand with Trump (18 hours ago)

Donald Trump's criminal trial began, his courtroom entourage consisted of a gaggle of lawyers & campaign aides. This week, it's started to look more like a preview of July's Republican National Convention.

With Michael Cohen, Mr Trump's former lawyer and pivotal witness for the prosecution, on the stand, the number of prominent Republican officeholders in attendance has expanded dramatically.

On Tuesday, Speaker of the House Mike Johnson - the top Republican in the US - met the former president at the courthouse in Manhattan, greeting him with a smile and a nod. Then, while the hush-money trial was still ongoing, he gave a brief statement to the press outside. "I am disgusted by what is happening here," he said, "what is being done to our entire system of justice."

Mr Trump denies 34 counts of falsifying business records related to a hush-money payment to porn star Stormy Daniels during the 2016 presidential campaign. New York prosecutors are using a novel legal theory to argue that the alleged cover-up amounts to election interference.

Biden and Trump agree to June and September debates as RFK vies to qualify

Joe Biden and Donald Trump have agreed to hold two presidential TV debates in June and September, setting the stage for primetime political duels that could shake up the White House race.

CNN will host the first forum on 27 June in the key swing state of Georgia.

ABC will host the second one on 10 September.

The announcement came after President Biden, a Democrat, laid out his terms for debating his Republican predecessor ahead of November's election.

CNN said there would be no audience at June's debate in Atlanta, which will be moderated by hosts Jake Tapper and Dana Bash. It is scheduled unusually early for an election year.

How important to the US presidential election are debates?. Donald Trump accepts a challenge to face off against President Joe Biden in new-format televised.

President Joe Biden vs challenged Donald Trump, his likely main rival 2024 election, to two televised debates in the run-up to the polls in November.
Trump was quick to accept the invitation – saying he would debate Biden anytime, any day. While
Biden has deviated from the conventional timings, style and organisers.

The date for the first sparring match is so early that neither candidate will have formally accepted their party’s nomination. And for at least that debate, there will be no live audience. The two men are already exchanging insults on social media. So what are the key issues to look out for – if and when they face each other?

And how important are these debates?.

May 18, 2024. The coming presidential election rematch presents Americans with a profound opportunity to compare their lived experiences under two very different presidents. President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump diverged over the Covid-19 pandemic, disagree on how to help less fortunate American children, chose to do very different things with taxpayer dollars and have opposite views of American democracy — all of which impacted everyday American life to some degree.

Biden may benefit in November from the power of incumbency. Trump may be helped by a nostalgia for pre-pandemic life. All voters will have to ask themselves: under which president were they better off?

Russia dabbing water (land) unilaterally moved to change maritime border with Lithuania and Finland in the Baltic Sea, according to a draft decree from May 21 published on the Russian govt's website. Lithuania and Finland have not yet reacted to Russia's decision toward the maritime border, nor has Russia's unilateral decision been recognized internationally.

Russia intends to appropriate inland sea waters in the eastern part of the Gulf of Finland and near the cities of Baltiysk and Zelenogradsk in Kaliningrad Oblast, according to a decree prepared by the Russian Defense Ministry.

In April, the U.S. Army unveiled a new model of its mainstay armored vehicle: the M2 Bradley infantry fighting vehicle (IFV), both transports infantry and supports them in combat using a rapid-firing Bushmaster 25-millimeter autocannon and long-range TOW-2 anti-tank missiles.

New M2A4E1 sub-sports new Israeli-designed Iron Fist ‘hard-kill’ active protection system. Used radar & infrared sensors to detect incoming anti-tank projectiles, & shoots down b4 can impact the vehicle using four grenade-like counter-munitions preloaded in two small turrets bolted onto Bradley. Israel make Iron Fist for Bradley, now crews can pull out ‘get-out-of for-free’ when targeted by anti-tank guided missiles (like Russia's Kornet), lighter unguided rockets (like RPG-7), old-school recoilless rifles (like Soviet SPG-9), & kamikaze drones.

Bradleys are not well-armored compared to other IFVs, armor is weak than main battle tank, & there are many higher-end tank-busting weapons likely to knock a Bradley out with one hit. The E1 model also incorporates a cooling system (ECU) to keep passengers chill, & a new third-generation, high-definition forward-looking infrared (HD FLIR) gunner’s sight offering greatly improved resolution & low-light performance, it further widen marked spotting advantage. Bradleys demonstrated over Soviet armored vehicles in Iraq and Ukraine.

Donald Trump was booed repeatedly during an appearance at the Libertarian Party's national convention on Saturday as he asked members for their support.

Mr Trump, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, told party's delegates to unite with him to beat Democrat Joe Biden.

"We must work together," he said. "Combine with us. You have to combine with us."The request was met with vigorous jeers from the Libertarian party members, gathered in Washington to pick their White House nominee.

Libertarians, who favour small govt & individual freedom, typically lean to the right on issues like federal spending and gun rights. But Mr Trump's invitation to the convention divided the party, with many members decrying his Covid-19 policies while in office, as well as the national debt accrued under his watch.

Despite the icy welcome, Republican pressed on with his half-hour speech, he'd come "to extend a hand of friendship" & pledging to include a Libertarian in his cabinet if elected.

Many in the crowd heckled in disbelief. He's (kan-nan) booed again. Rotfl
