Colombia: The miracle of indigenous children in the jungle
#1

President Gustavo Petro, like the entire country, celebrated the discovery of the four minors who had been missing for 40 days in the Guaviare jungle.

The captain, Andrés Chaparro, representative of the Assistant General Command of the Military Forces, recounted that the children told the group that found them that "they fed on the fruits that the jungle gave them and on the survival kits that they were finding." ”.

The minors, according to the Military Forces, have dehydration and some bites from animals that live in the jungle.

Some media outlets interviewed their maternal grandparents, who insisted that the jungle would return them safely, and that forces coexisted deep in that jungle that the "white man" does not understand, but that the indigenous peoples do understand. The four minors are part of the Uitoto community, and they had to leave their community fleeing with their mother, Magdalena Mucutuy, from the horrors of war. Her husband, Manuel Ranoque, a community leader, had been threatened by illegal groups.

This is why some of its inhabitants, such as Alex Rufino of the Ticuna people, told El País that those who get lost in the jungle are accompanied by "other spiritualities, other beings" , and there is the possibility of meeting with towns that still remain incommunicado in the jungle and "spirits that live there, mothers of that place (...) They take great care of people" , which is why his family always believed that the children were still alive.

In interviews with AFP, the grandparents assured that the eldest of the siblings "is very intelligent", "strong" and of a "warrior" nature, qualities that allowed her to keep the little ones safe. The two minors had their birthday in the jungle.

Wilson, a sniffer dog that found several of the boys' belongings, is now lost in thick vegetation, according to the Army. The military and the government do not rule out that the animal has crossed with minors at some point in its odyssey.

"Lesly smiled at us, gave us a hug, told us about the puppy," launched Astrid Cáceres, director of the state entity that watches over children's rights.

In this region of difficult access by river and without highways, the inhabitants usually travel in private flights. The minors boarded the plane with their mother on May 1 to flee from guerrillas who recruit and intimidate the inhabitants of the area, according to the Army.
