I think not police fault. They need to keep information as they will need it to verify confessions or witness accounts.
Because they hold back information, the Internet hobby sleuths start to guess who is murderer.
If they keep to themselves it's fine but if they go and point finger that this person or another is murderer it is highly dangerous and can endanger innocent people.
If they have a theory they can just approach police as the police is also looking for ans.
