According to Johnson, the free edition of the tests cost British taxpayers the equivalent of 2.2 billion euros in January 2022. Covid contact tracing will also be discontinued from April, as will Corona sick pay.
67 leading British scientists warned Johnson and his chief advisers in an open letter that the lifting of all measures and testing "will almost certainly increase the spread of the virus, while at the same time the visibility of worrying new mutations will disappear".
