Actually China has no claim on 钓鱼岛. It's claim comes indirectly from Taiwan (and the complex Taiwan is part of China thingy)..

Best still, Taiwan think 钓鱼岛 belong to Japan, even their ex-president openly say so..

So, China fighting for something that technically it doesn't own, the "rightful" owner, Taiwan, don't give a damn about 钓鱼岛, and Japan is happy to take it FOC.
