Discrimination of older workers is rife in S'pore
#1

Discrimination of older workers is illegal in many countries, but not in S'pore. There are no laws (only useless guidelines) in place to protect older employees from unfair treatment. Ageism is difficult to prove as employers may easily cite other reasons for displacing seniors from the company. Many older workers are highly skilled and experienced and make valuable contributions to the workplace, but they often command higher salaries and benefits compared to younger employees. By pressuring these staff into early retirement, companies may reduce their overall labour costs.

PAP wants and have been driving Age Discrimination for many years

Otherwise, how to bring in FREE & EASY FTs without limit

They wayang set the law but how many companies have been sued?

30 or 100?

Why do we need 5 Mayors and 80 PAP Ministers?

Many employers believe in the negative stereotypes about older workers being less productive, less adaptable and less technologically savvy. This leads to discrimination in hiring, promotion and training opportunities. Employers may believe that seniors are more expensive owing to higher salaries and benefits.

The govt wants to attract new citizens so creating jobs for them seems to be of paramount importance. To free up vacancies in many companies, employers are given the greenlight to displace older staff and hire younger workers. The experience and knowledge of older workers is undervalued with AI, which leads to further discrimination based on age.

As long as there are no specific anti-discrimination laws in place, competent older workers are not receiving adequate protection from discrimination based on their age rather than their ability; those affected by forced lay-offs will consider making official complaints nothing but a waste of time. Changes to the Retirement and Re-employment Act represent official acknowledgement that most current white collar work is knowledge or technology based. Employees are theoretically able to continue their careers well into their sixties.

Even though the Govt has long acknowledged the problem of ageism in S'pore, it has maintained that introducing anti-discriminatory laws could increase business costs and undermine our economic competitiveness. Such an assertion does not appear to be accurate since the global competitiveness of nations with anti-discrimination laws, such as the United States, Britain, Germany, the Netherlands, Hong Kong, Japan, Finland and Sweden, remains relatively stable.

Eventually PAP will be like other countries when they are losing votes due to ageism issues.
just need to wait for PAP votes to drop and the ageism problem will be minimised.

This Govt refuse to acknowledge ageism is a real issue and chose to ignore it. Ageism practised by all companies benefits them and their party fully so that the unwanted/ least favourable jobs can be filled by elderly people. This way, Singapore can continue exploit the vulnerable as beggars without dignity.

Karma hit Tan Chuan-Jin really hard after his callous remark which made light of the struggles faced by many seniors in S'pore.

I believe that Ageism unsolved or not reduced is the best sweetener for non- locals. This seems to be the ONE and Only reason why they vote for PaP.
