Do you know the Battle of Okinawa?
#1

From the end of March to the end of June 1945, the Japanese and American forces fought a fierce war centering on the main island of Okinawa. Battle of Okinawa. Many soldiers died in this battle. In addition, ordinary citizens were caught up in the fighting and lost precious lives. The number of civilian casualties far exceeds the number of soldiers killed in action. Young children also died.

The people of Okinawa did not want war. However, Japanese military bases and positions were built on the main island of Okinawa and remote islands for the purpose of "mainland defense". Many citizens of the prefecture were mobilized to prepare for the war of the Japanese army. The U.S. forces landed there and it became a battlefield. Why did Okinawa have to become the stage of a fierce war? What kind of tragedy happened as a result?

Ryukyu Islands = 琉球群島

In September 1943, Japan decided the ``absolute national defense zone'' as an area that must be secured for homeland defense.

It was a vast defense line connecting the Kurile Islands, the Mariana Islands, Burma, etc., and the purpose was to secure resources for war.

As a result, the defense of Japan's Nansei Islands will be strengthened, and airfields will be constructed in various parts of Okinawa as "unsinkable aircraft carriers" (unsinkable aircraft carriers) in order to recapture "air superiority" to advance air operations. . Airfields were built in more than a dozen locations, including on the surrounding remote islands.

Actually before Okinawa other islands like Peliliu Iwo Jima etc also have wars aka island wars. Japan really give US marines a hard time. Small little Asians giving big sized American hell on Earth.
