Nikki Haley to end presidential campaign, ceding GOP nomination to Trump

Former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley will drop out of the 2024 presidential race Wednesday after losing every state but one — Vermont — in Super Tuesday’s primary contests, a source familiar with Haley’s plans confirmed to NBC News.

Haley’s move cedes the Republican nomination to former President Donald Trump and effectively kicks off the general election, with Trump and President Joe Biden taking unofficial command of their parties early in primary season after a string of victories.

WASHINGTON, March 14 (Reuters) - U.S. President Joe Biden had a marginal 1 percentage point lead over Donald Trump ahead of the November presidential election as each candidate secured enough support from their parties to appear on the ballot, a new Reuters/Ipsos poll found.
Some 39% of registered voters in the one-week poll, opens new tab, which closed on Wednesday, said they would vote for Biden, a Democrat, if the election were held today, compared with 38% who picked Republican former President Trump. Biden's lead was within the survey's 1.8 percentage point margin of error.

Trump's lawyers say impossible for him to post bond covering US$454 million civil fraud judgment.

With interest, Trump owes US$456.8 million. In all, he and co-defendants including his company and top executives owe US$467.3 million. To obtain a bond, they would be required to post collateral worth $557 million, Trump's lawyers said.

A judge ruled last month that Trump must post a bond covering full amount to pause enforcement of the judgment, which is to begin on Mar 25.

Judge Arthur Engoron ruled in February that Trump, his company and top executives, including his sons Eric and Donald Trump Jr, schemed for years to deceive banks insurers by inflating his wealth on financial statements to secure loans & make deals.

Among other penalties, the judge put strict limitations on the ability of Trump’s company, the Trump Organization, to do business.

Trump is asking a full panel of the state's intermediate appellate court to stay the judgment while he appeals
