Malaysia probes server shipments connected to Singapore fraud case.
Kuala Lumpur (Reuters) - Malaysia is investigating if local laws were breached in the shipment of servers linked to a Singapore fraud case, as they may have contained advanced chips subject to U.S. export controls. S'pore charged three men late last month with fraud in a case that domestic media linked to the transfer of Nvidia's artificial intelligence chips from the country to Chinese AI firm DeepSeek.
S'pore said the servers involved in the case were supplied by U.S. firms and shipped to M'sia. It also said the servers may have contained Nvidia chips, without elaborating whether they are subject to U.S. export controls.
"The Govt of M'sia is taking necessary actions to establish whether M'sian laws had been breached in the alleged shipment of U.S.-sanctioned AI chips from S'pore to M'sia," the trade ministry said in a statement late on Tuesday.
It said the government is working closely with the U.S. and Singapore to "find effective ways to address the issue of the trade involving U.S.-sanctioned chips".
The United States is investigating if DeepSeek, the Chinese company whose AI model's performance rocked the tech world in January, has been using U.S. chips that are not allowed to be shipped to China, Reuters reported earlier.

MRT Corp has set up a subsidiary, Malaysia Rapid Transit System Sdn Bhd (MRTS), to be the developer and owner of the civil infrastructure for the Malaysian section of the Rapid Transit System Link (RTS Link) Project Between Johor Bahru and Singapore. The company was incorporated on 5 December 2019.
The RTS Link Project is a railway shuttle link approximately 4km length with two stations, one in Bukit Chagar, Johor Bahru, Malaysia and one in Woodlands, Singapore.
The link will be a modern Light Rail Transit (LRT) system that will provide high volume, fast and efficient transportation system between the two stations.
The link will be integrated with public transport systems at both stations, providing an alternative means of transportation that will help alleviate the congestion at immigration checkpoints for both countries.
The link will have a capacity of 10,000 passengers per hour, per direction and an expected ridership of about 40,000 passengers per day upon opening.
Immigration, Custom and Quarantine (ICQ)
As an international link between Malaysia and Singapore, the RTS Link Project includes the building of a new Immigration, Customs and Quarantine (ICQ) facility next to the station at Bukit Chagar. Similarly, the RTS Link Station in Woodlands North in Singapore will also have Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) facilities.
What is unique is that the Malaysian ICQ and Singaporean CIQ facilities will be co-located within the same building. This will allow the entire immigration process of leaving and entering both countries to be completed at the departing station.
Upon arrival, passenger will just leave the station without needing to go through border crossing formalities again.

Najib’s stepson gets 1MDB money again
Kuala Lumpur High Court has ordered 1MDB to pay RM225,000 to Najib Abdul Razak's stepson Riza Abdul Aziz and his two companies. This is for costs after 1MDB withdrew its US$248 million civil suit against Riza. Riza is accused of having received the sum misappropriated from 1MDB, which among others, was used to finance the film “The Wolf of Wall Street". In 2020, criminal trial against him was halted after he committed to return US$107.3 million to the Msian govt. This is on top of US$57 million that was forfeited by Riza's film company Red Granite Pictures.
In the civil suit, a senior MACC officer testified that Najib's stepson was working towards a global settlement on the total sum alleged to have been misappropriated.

Once critical of bailouts, Anwar throws Sapura Energy RM1.1b lifeline
Three years ago, in a debate with former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak, Anwar Ibrahim was critical of a proposal for the government to bail out debt-addled Sapura Energy Bhd. The then-opposition leader had argued that any talk of a bailout could only be done after a forensic audit on Sapura to determine if the company - which Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB) had heavily invested in - had been mismanaged

PUTRAJAYA, March 14 — The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) intends for Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob to verify hundreds of documents seized for the corruption investigation linked to the ex-prime minister. Berita Harian reported a source as saying the documents include asset declarations, procurement records, and approval documents linked to Ismail Sabri’s tenure in govt. “This is one of the reasons why Ismail Sabri has been summoned for questioning over several days, as MACC officers need to examine hundreds of documents as part of the investigation,” quoted Berita Harian.
MACC investigators are also looking into the discovery of cash and gold bars worth RM177 million, which were confiscated from three premises, including a suspected safe house in Kuala Lumpur.

Malaysia’s PM Anwar denies bailout claims after pumping $331 million into ailing Sapura Energy
Malaysia PM Anwar Ibrahim claimed that critics would have attacked him no matter the decision made over Sapura Energy.
KUALA LUMPUR - Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has come under heavy fire after his government injected RM1.1 billion (S$331 million) into Sapura Energy on March 11, having previously criticised calls to bail out the former petroleum giant.
The opposition and ordinary Malaysians alike have mocked the premier over the subscription of Sapura’s convertible loan stocks by a Finance Ministry-owned vehicle, pointing out how the then opposition leader had in 2022 been strongly against a bailout without a forensic audit to identify mismanagement in the oil and gas company that is now saddled with RM16 billion in liabilities.
“What are the merits and rationale of channelling RM1.1 billion to an uncompetitive company facing losses?” asked Kelantan-based lawmaker Syahir Sulaiman in a March 12 press statement
