true, i did not think of this scenario,, u are right, if 2/3 oppies , the EP will act to safe guard the reserve.
but again the day govt oppies can use 70% vote in parliament to override him, so how???

and they may use whatever reason to kick him out. Ong Teng Cheong ask many question about reserve and want to know the detail of our reseve.
but they give him trouble by saying they will need up to 3 yrs to do so.

and then eventually he was ask to step down by parliament through voting again, this round they claim he got cancer and was unfit to be EP.

Nothing to protect the ruling party either

The EP serves as counterbalance

The beauty is that both are the same electorate

The rest of the potbelly politics is best left to the pulse of the moment in the future

Without the EP, you have zero safeguards, but of course it can be abused by bad actors, but this is what it is

That's why it is paramount to have an Independent President away from the ruling party

Whether the EP has opposition support or is part of the politics

It is necessary that the EP has opposition support, without that, the EP is really a toothless tiger, with the 2/3 majority, his role is as good as totally nuked

So, while we say the EP is a unifying force, and should be non-partisan, the country is driven by two opposing forces in our democratic system

The Ruling Party and its Opposition

Hence, if you are not supporting the Ruling Party, you shuold be supporting the Opposition

This is the same as the EP

If you do not support the Ruling Party, you should support an Independent President

Even if you support the Ruling Party, you should also be supporting an Independent President

If not, then you have betrayed LKY's intention in setting up this EP structure

This is a very simple framework in which our democratic system is protected from bad actors
