Find out what's going on, whether there is a conflict in the government, and what the West is saying about the dismissal of the Commander-in-Chief

At the beginning of the week, the Internet exploded with reports of Valeriy Zaluzhny's dismissal, but the information was not confirmed. Despite the fact that the week is coming to an end and there is still no decree on his dismissal, the level of tension in society is not decreasing, and Western media continue to write that "the resignation should take place this week."

What is going on, whether there is a conflict between Zelenskyi and Zaluzhnyi, and what is known about the possible dismissal of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces - we will tell you further in the article.

What is known about Zaluzhny's resignation?

On January 29, Valeriy Zaluzhnyi was invited to a meeting on Bankova Street. According to most Ukrainian media, three people took part in the conversation: Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Valeriy Zaluzhnyy, and Defense Minister Rustem Umerov. Thus, during the conversation, the President of Ukraine informed the Commander-in-Chief that a decree on his resignation would be signed in the near future. That same evening, this information began to be actively disseminated by anonymous telegram channels and the media. However, the dismissal was not confirmed that day, and as of the morning of February 2, there was no corresponding decree from Zelensky.

This topic was also picked up in the West, as CNN reported on February 1, citing "two sources," that the president was going to announce the dismissal of the Armed Forces Commander-in-Chief Valeriy Zaluzhnyi by the end of the week. The outlet also said that Zaluzhnyi had been offered another position, but had refused it. At the same time, The New York Times said that the commander-in-chief was not dismissed because of a media leak.

Is there a conflict between Zelenskyi and Zaluzhnyi?.

Talk of the possible replacement of Ukrainian Commander-in-Chief, General Valerii Zaluzhnyi, by President Zelensky is itself a normal process in security expert Rainer Saks says. On the other hand, Zelenskyy needs to explain. President asked Gen. Zaluzhnyi, to step down Monday last wk, but refused, speculation president may dismissed him instead, as commander-in-chief is proving more popular than the president, at least in Ukraine itself. Saks said the President plan to make changes political leadership.
Speaking to ETV's "Ringvaade" current affairs show Saks said: "It might be fair to assume 2-years of work at this level of intensity can end up in a person being tired and spent. On other hand, president certainly enjoys support and popularity among Ukrainians. So if public don't understand why change is being made, then President Zelenskyy and the political power can somehow get undermined, from the inside."

"However, President Zelenskyy has not directly said why he feels need to replace head of the defense forces, expanding circle of individuals but context is such, all understand that he likely wants to appoint a new defense forces chief," Saks assessing president's fatigue levels, one would have to bear in democratic play, the president, the govt & legislature certainly have the right to appoint their defense chief. President may have to explain it to the public," Saks said. According, divergences of opinion have arisen over past yr. "Of all, the failure of last year's Ukrainian counter-offensive. The chief of defense however publicly took responsibility for this."

"He penned an article in the fall of last year in which he explained why it had failed, why he thought that was the case, and what needed to be done to move forward so that everything might work out for the better – and, Zaluzhnyi took responsibility for it," the expert said.

2nd factor relates to mobilization, Saks says, failure of counter-offensive, preparing for a lengthier war. And the need for new units must be formed. Those who r fighting, they cannot fight forever - get tired & also threats that arise,"this are reason been noted. Ukraine's chief of defense has made veiled accusations against govt such as war commissariat system has been shut down in Ukraine. president did so is main point b'cos it was a corrupt system & relict of the Soviet era," Saks continued.

Events like these show definitely a differences of opinion between Zelenskyy & Zaluzhnyi] here. That said, we like to stress that this level, there have to be some differences of vision. A realistic, all to think exactly the same way, all the time," in case, Zaluzhnyi has become a figurehead; a symbol of the courage, martial spirit & resistance of Ukraine's defense forces, shouldn't & taken to mean other leading military figures who are popular, too.

Politicians, popularity measured according to certain metrics as compare to defense chief has not
measured on a continual basis.

Ukrainian president confirms he’s thinking about dismissing the country’s military chief

The possibility that the widely popular Gen. Valerii Zaluzhnyi could be fired has caused an uproar in Ukraine and delighted the Kremlin as the war approaches its second anniversary.

By The Associated Press
Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he is thinking about dismissing the country’s top military officer as part of a broader leadership shakeup, a possibility that has shocked the nation fighting a war to end Russia’s invasion and also worried Ukraine’s Western allies.

Zelenskyy confirmed in an interview with Italian broadcaster RAI TV released late Sunday that he was thinking about removing Gen. Valerii Zaluzhnyi, the popular commander-in-chief of Ukraine’s armed forces. He said he was contemplating the move to ensure the country remains led by individuals who are “convinced of victory” against Russia.
