Emirates axing Singapore – Melbourne flights after 28 years

12 January 2025, 12:00

Emirates' sole remaining Singapore - Australia "fifth freedom" route sees its final days, amid strong competition, with the airline refocusing on non-stop Dubai - Melbourne services.

One of the busiest routes at Singapore Changi Airport is Melbourne in Australia, with six airlines currently operating a total of 79 flights per week in each direction between the two cities, a record high and a substantial increase from pre-COVID levels.

Maybe for some unknown reasons, Emirates must have taken Taylor Swift 2024 performance in Singapore negatively ..

Only guessing : either reflects Changi declining numbers of arrivals or expecting major tourists shifting to Indochina.

Do u want to publish the number of visitors going to Australia? No wonder Emirates airline route cannot sustain.

But Emirates will possibly originate more direct flight from Dubai without stopping transit via Singapore to Melbourne ..

Much Faster and making more $$$
Smart choice rather not wasting time in Singapore Changi

SIA will save $$$ and cut the kitchen hardworking hours by reducing the already very low 52,000 meals daily further by few thousands

Good for Changi too.

Middle east got lots of terrorists. Australia may have to think twice about the direct flight.

"How many Emirates flights per day?
Emirates caters for 490 flights daily, with 149 meals served every minute - totalling an enormous 215,000 meals every day, served across the globe.15 Feb 2024"

Honestly, it's a loss for Singapore..

"several Airbus planes are designed for long-haul flights, including the A321XLR, A321LR, and A350-1000"

Scythian is ABSOLUTELY lying on this. This Emirate cancellation will benefit SIA.

Many will need to use SIA or other flights to Melbourne. This is certainly an unprofitable biz for Emirates. They are smart to cut loss to Melbourne.
