An aircraft carrier is for offense purposes. Mainly to project power way beyond one's borders. I guess it can be also used for defense but mainly for nations that are stretched over a big sea area and thus need to navigate the area for defense purposes. But so far from what I have seen, it is mainly for offense.

If we have two or three aircraft carriers would be better. If we have three, that means we would be having three fully equipped airports complete with fighter jets standing by offshore somewhere in International waters ready for flight missions. 

We must cater for a scenario where our airbases in mainland Singapore are totally destroyed by enemy's pre-emptive attacks. ....

I think it is unlikely that our airbases are bombed until it is not useable.  Pilots landing on aircraft carrier must be very skill, cos they are landing in a very small area of an aircraft carrier.  They need a hook at the aircraft carrier to 'catch' the landing planes......

What hook are you crapping about? The F35 is a short take off and vertical landing fighter. No need catapult for take off and arrester hook for landing. .....

Singapore will be purchasing 4 nos, F-35 fighter jets costing $115.5 million a piece, that will be $462 million.  There is also an option to buy another 8nos........A squadron of planes is typically 12 to 24 planes....

Ours is B variant more complicated, can up down vertically  
More buying A variant, that why can go cheaper. 

We must learn why the accident happen. 
Some extra features can omit should omit, 
easier for pilot and pocket.
