he was arrested and thrown into prison in 1989 for a murder he did not commit. He was then 22.

The CNA Asia reported the nan was assaulted and sleep deprived to force him to confess to crime he didn't commit.

At least the Korean authorities have admitted wrong and apologised to victim.

But what about in Singapore ....same thing happened....but none is punished. S.korea to day is a true democracy where power cannot be easily abused and wrong doing not covered up.

What happened to these Singaporeans...watch this video before you go and judge S.Korea as being unjust to its citizens

the case shows that death sentence should be removed.
no man has rights to terminate another man life.
even if the environment is not suitable now, there should be a plan or
target to remove death sentence in future.
prevention of crime is many things. ability to detect, cost of detection, technology, social norm all is needed.
capital punishment as a deterrent works as a rough method at the beginning.
but should be removed as society progress.
if probability of getting catch of breaking the law is near 100%, crime rate will go down.

advance civilize society all has no more death sentence in their law.

If the real killer is not found, I don't think there'll be apologies.

Just like in Korean dramas. The police in the shows always beat up the suspects without any consequences.

Mostly back in the 1980s or earlier.

In Canada and Australia etc  interrogation is record so that the process cannot be abused.

Otherwise accused can be pressured to give false confession.

All interrogation in Singapore should be recorded.

Look at this Singapore case where innocent man was almost hanged if not for brave lawyer. Man was interrogated and abused until he confessed to crime he did not commit by police.....

Despite this wrongful conviction by authorities that almost result in death of innocent.....nothing was done in Singapore to improve.

Yet we harp endlessly at what happen in S.korea ....when  in actually fact we do nothing about such things in Singapore and close one eye.

Think nowadays interrogation is recorded in Singapore due to a change in 2017.

SINGAPORE — Crime suspects will be video-recorded when they have their statements taken by the police, as part of wide-ranging changes proposed to make criminal procedures fairer and more accurate.

Statement or interrogation?

I was referring to interrogation....statement recording is different.

You are wrong. South Korea is one of the worst democratic places to be in, unless you're borned into one of the chaebol families.

Their order of society is highly hierarchical, even more so than the Chinese. Their rich trample upon the poor, so much so that the poor will do anything to climb up the ladder. Celebrities are being forced into prostitution so that they can continue to act or sing or dance. The sissy culture started in Japan but flourished in SK, where people are packaged into commodity items with dignity, so that the rich can continue to rake in big bucks. Once the boy/girl idols are used up, they'll be thrown away like tissue paper.

It's for interview/interrogation.

The move, which criminal lawyers here have sought for years, is aimed at giving the court a better way of determining the voluntariness and weight of such statements
