Food prices expected to go up in coming months: Gan Kim Yong
#1

NOVEMBER 04, 2021

SINGAPORE - Food is expected to become more expensive in Singapore in the coming months as energy prices increase amid higher prices for global food commodities, supply chain bottlenecks and labour shortages, said Trade and Industry Minister Gan Kim Yong.

In a written reply to a parliamentary question from Shawn Huang (Jurong GRC) on Wednesday (Nov 3), Gan said that with energy prices expected to rise further, food suppliers may need to adjust prices to reflect the cost increases.

The minister noted that the cost of food is affected by a combination of factors, including imported prices, freight, labour, and seasonal weather changes.

Domestic food prices have risen in the past six months, and the prices of goods and services in general are expected to be pushed up by global inflationary pressures.

Singapore imports natural gas to generate electricity and also imports most of its food, so higher prices of these commodities globally will translate to higher prices domestically.

SMJL is "imported prices"? Mr Khaw not taking the umbrella to rage the internet?

But the increase in cost is largely due to FWs LEVY and the Progressive Wage Model, lah.

Why do we need 5 Mayors and 80 PAP Ministers?

There are many things that is going up, public transports by bus and  MRT, electricity charges, water charges, and many other commodities, only wages are stagnated or sometimes reduced   ....... Angry

The MIW wants the population to be 6.9 million, consists of locals, PRs and FTs, so that more jobs could be created, but we don's see this happening crying cos the FTs rob jobs meant for PMETs here.......

PAP govt is rich enough to subsidise the food prices.

Many rich govts subsidise the staple food prices for their citizens when prices go up

When minister open their big mouth to say food prices going up, hawkers will straight away jump on the band wagon and raise prices.
He should be thinking of how to control inflation and keep prices from going up.
Useless of him to give warning of increasing prices.

It is the garment's duty and responsibility to keep prices of commodities low or stable. When prices go up, like in inflation, garment must think of avenues to curb this inflation..... Angry

And while your real income is falling, govt will likely ask for a higher increase in gst, your min sum in CPF etc. Started with electricity and bus fare liao...

Ever wonder why you elected to pay them millions while they make you a pauper? You simply deserve the govt you voted for. The fault lies in voters and not any party or member of Parliament or minister...

Of course what. Govt increase GST from 5% to 7%, a 2% increase, but your kopi increase 30% by the coffeeshop

Now you know why the PAP will never lose in elections? Because businessmen love PAP

If you are a salaried worker in Singapore, you die your own business
