CCP faces threat not seen since protests that led to Tiananmen Square massacre
#1

China has witnessed bigger protests in Hong Kong, but nothing on the mainland has come close to this since 1989.

Unrest is actually commonplace in China but demonstrations are usually small, localised and easily quashed.

What will worry China's leadership about these protests is their size, their spread across the country, and their persistence.

The authoritarian Chinese Communist Party has not seen a threat like this since the pro-democracy movements of the late 1980s that culminated in the brutal Tiananmen Square massacre.

The spark this time was an apartment fire in the western city of Urumqi that took at least 10 lives.

To be fair the 1989 protest are still peaceful overall until the 64.

This currently one already got some violence clash from the start. Sad

There was a time when the country asked ordinary men to do extraordinary things.

But now, they'll only do it for money.

That you have to go ask the TS - He somehow assume any protest in China =  Tiananmen incident = HK protest = violent clash = democracy vs communism.

It is like saying I am going to die whenever I sneezes..HA! Rolleyes

Think you misunderstood.

TS ish not wrong. Just that the 1989 and HK protest are peaceful for many months until the authority started to get violence so it actually take a long time to slowly escalated into a violent crackdown by CCP.

This current one ish also started peacefully nia if you got follow the story, it seem first started when group of AT started gathering in a street to offer flowers and prayers to the victims, actually not even considered a protest in western views as this ish norm for people to gather in public and offer prayers to victims in a major disaster. Then on the same night CCP come and start hoot people and destroy the offering, this kind of barbaric act finally trigger the ATs and start fighting back, nao this anger also started to spread everywhere. So ish very fast already got violent crackdown, that why people expect this time to escalate much faster in a bad way as compare to 1989 or HK protest.

You have mistaken - Both 1989 and HK protests had many recorded evidence of violent acts by the protesters, including setting fire to vehicles, killing of security personnelsl (in 1989), destruction of public properties and ignoring orders by the police.

By your measurement, can we also label our 2013 Little India riot of 2013 a "peaceful" protest ?

Some pple has very short term memory - Just 3 years ago in HK, we saw how violent and screwed up HK got for one full year before Beijing decided to pass the Security Law. Yet we have same group who insist the 2019 protest were "peaceful" and predicted another 64 in HK. HA! Rolleyes

Think you misunderstood - If you consider FACTS that challenge your view is of "No points arguing", then it is as good as you rejecting the reality that the CCP gov actions taken since the 1989  and 2019 protests had improved the country of 1.4b for over 40 years. No ?

The former is debatable since no one can confirm the casualty figure nor can we say what will become of China if the 1989 situation was allowed to deteriorate. That is a consequence no one can predict nor any gov is prepared to allow.

Ironically, 30 years later in tiny HK, the 2019 protest and subsequent lost of control by SAR authority shows just how anarchy can easily consume the entire society, even those who weren't part of the protest....even  teacher vs students, colleagues vs colleagues, and between family members. If Beijing had not act, we will see another  Syria, Ukraine, Iraq, Libya etc. only 10,000x worst.

This is why one word that Chinese fear the most:

Call out the tanks.. After 1 night, all protests gone..

Call kill the chicken for monkey to see..

1. I have served the nation in a combat unit for 2.5 + 10 years. I had fulfilled my duty as a citizen, but has the country do it's part for me?
2. I don't know where the threat of CCP is, but I know the threat of CECA is already at my doorsteps
3. I had been called a CCP, JHK, Pinoy, but they never called me a CECA..
