I live within close proximity to a nature reserve, and have seen more snakes, monitor lizards and palm civets than rats. In fact, I have never seen a rat in and around my home in the 2 decades that I have lived here.

The significant increase in our rat population corresponds with the influx of foreigners. New York has 5 times as many rats compared to people, and there are more than 8 million humans living in an area larger than S'pore. We now have 6 million residents generating enough food waste to feed these rodents, which will soon outnumber us.

If I understand correctly, nature don’t have much food for rats. You should consider renting place at bukit batok.  Big Grin Hearsay there many many rats.

HDB area, especially those 4 storey ones with shops below. These places have the most rats as there are plentiful of food for them.

I recall that scary video where pest exterminators were using ropes to secure themselves on a slope at Bukit Batok as hundreds of rats were swarming around their feet. Residents of flats above coffeeshops will most likely have more rodent encounters.

As a child, my siblings and I use to trap rats at my parents' landed property. The only way we knew how to put the rodents down was to boil a kettle of water and pour it down the cage.

Rats usually have burrows underground, so it there is a construction site near your home, there will probably be more rodent sightings while excavation and piling are in progress.

There are many innovative trap designs on YouTube, but non addresses this problem

In the past I released them in forested areas, but found that quite troublesome

Now just leave them inside the traps at a far corner and they would die in a couple of days, then disposed off. The toughest ones may last 3 to 4 days. Weak ones only 1 to 2 days

This applies to rats found in the countryside of Thailand, Vietnam, India etc. - Not sewer rodents found in the cities.

I told you that there are no rat sightings. That doesn't mean that there are no rodents. Maybe they are so small and elusive that I didn't notice any.
